cuthberts coffee & sandwich bar, at 94a fountainbridge, has a warm but airy feel to it. friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere that is both modern and softly furnished
plenty to choose from by way of eats. tempting sweet things, sandwiches to go through to full sit down meals. it was around brunch time when we dropped in and i have to admit that their double morning roll (i had bacon and two soft fried eggs) was superb - i actually think it was the best i've ever tasted...but on to the coffee
i had a flat white (trusty partner wasn't up for the usual cappuccino today). they currently use their own blend of howdah-supplied coffee - nice to see a smaller supplier being used and clearly cuthberts' has thought about this and their staff are well-informed
the temperature of the coffee was good, possibly a little on the cool side even for me, and the milk texture and crema soft and rounded. the flavour itself, however, didn't rise to the same level. bitterness was a bit high compared to other attributes. on the right track though
- coffee: own blend
- coolness: great breakfast
